Chapter 01
What a North Texas hail strike actually does to a shingle
A hailstone the size of a golf ball hits an asphalt shingle at somewhere near fifty miles an hour. It does not usually punch a hole. What it does is fracture the fiberglass mat underneath the granules, the layer that gives the shingle its strength and keeps water out for the next fifteen years. From the driveway, that shingle looks exactly like the one next to it.
This is the bruise problem, and it is the reason so many hail claims get argued instead of paid. Bruising reads as nothing from the ground and almost nothing from a ladder unless you know where to press and what a soft spot feels like under your thumb. Leave it alone and the mat keeps failing quietly, granule by granule, until a normal rain finds the weak spot two summers later. Catch it now, in writing, with photographs and a real inspection, and it is a hail claim with a date on it. That is what our free inspections are for.

Tear-off to dry-in, in the order that actually protects your house
The old shingles come off down to the deck, every layer, because a re-roof over an existing layer just buries the next leak instead of fixing this one. Once the deck is bare we walk every sheet of it. Soft, delaminated or water-stained decking gets cut out and replaced before anything else happens, because a new roof over a rotten deck fails at the deck, not at the shingle.
Synthetic underlayment goes down the same day the deck is exposed, full stop. North Texas can go from clear to a downpour in the time it takes to load a dumpster, and a bare deck sitting overnight is a house with no roof. We run CertainTeed synthetic underlayment rather than felt because it handles that exposure window and the summer heat underneath the shingle without the wrinkling and tearing that cheaper felt shows after a season on a Texas attic.
Chapter 03
Shingle choice against Texas heat, and what it costs you over twenty years
We install the full range: asphalt, metal, tile, decra, clay tile, concrete, wood and Spanish-style roofing. Asphalt is the honest baseline. It costs the least to put on and, under a Texas sun that runs the shingle surface well past 150 degrees on a summer roof, it is also the one that ages fastest, typically twenty to twenty-five years before the granules give out. Metal costs more up front but reflects most of that heat straight back off the house, runs forty to fifty years, and is the system we point storm-damaged homeowners toward when they plan on staying put.
Tile, clay tile and concrete run longest of all, fifty years and beyond, but the roof structure has to be engineered to carry that weight, which is a conversation before it is a quote. Decra is a lighter-weight stamped-metal way to get a tile look without the structural load. Wood shake reads beautifully on the right house and needs the most upkeep of anything on this list in a hail-and-heat climate. Spanish-style roofing sits alongside the tile family, chosen as much for the house it sits on as for the roof itself. We will tell you honestly which of these your home and your budget actually argue for.
The everyday work, not just the storm work
Most of what we do never involves an insurance company at all. Roof maintenance catches the small stuff, a pulled flashing, a cracked pipe boot, before it becomes a leak. Reroofing is scheduled work on a roof that has simply reached the end of its life. Roof inspections are free whether or not there was a storm, and if the roof has years left in it, we say so.
When it is storm work, we run 24-hour service so a tarp goes up the same day a tree limb or a hailstorm opens your roof, not three days later. We accept all major insurances, and our staff walks the paperwork with you rather than handing you a claim number and a business card.
