MAG Builders is a family-owned roofing and construction company in Grapevine, Texas
The name is a man’s initials, not an acronym someone chose because it sounded good. MAG Builders has been a construction company since 1998 and a roofing and storm-damage specialist since a second generation took it into Texas. Both halves of that story still run the business today.
1998 to now
Mark Andrew Gros, and the son who carried the name back to Texas
Mark Andrew Gros founded MAG Builders in 1998 in his hometown of Tulsa, Oklahoma, already carrying over 40 years of experience in custom building. MAG is his own initials: Mark Andrew Gros.
He spent 14 years of what followed working, training and educating his oldest son, Shawn Andrew Gros, in the family trade of home building and remodeling. It was a direct apprenticeship, not a title handed down.
Shawn relocated to Texas and expanded into storm restoration as a contractor and restoration specialist, rising to top management positions at some of the largest construction and restoration companies in the country. By the early 2010s he had built a career of his own, separate from his father’s company in Tulsa.
In June of 2013, Mark died suddenly of an unexplained heart condition.
Shawn relaunched MAG Builders in Texas to carry his father’s legacy forward, doing both custom home building and storm-damage restoration under the same name his father had built. One half of what the company does today is what Mark taught his son directly. The other half is what Shawn went out and learned on his own, in Texas, before he brought it home to the family business.

A first-class repair that leaves the homeowner confused about their claim, or a claim that gets approved on a repair nobody would want, is only half the job. The company builds toward both, on every project, whether it is a single reroof or a full commercial tenant improvement.

Custom building
Four decades of custom building is where Mark Gros started. It is still in the work today, stone and slate and copper flashing, on the homes the company builds from the ground up rather than repairs after a storm.
